Adoption of the UN Global compact raised by the Social Justice League

The successes and achievements of our business are the product of the hard work, commitment and ingenuity of our people; thus the wellbeing of our employees is our top priority. We have several procedures in place to protect our employees from any form of mistreatment or unfair practice these include maintaining open communication between management and trade unions through regular meetings, emphasis and inclusion of representatives, putting effective complaint and enquiry lines in place. Furthermore, Anchor Management Ltd subjects itself to half-yearly inspections by an independent labor practice authority and employs a team of internal labor relations officers to ensure, develop and enforce good labor practices in all departments.

We recognize that as a global citizen our actions impact the global community. Our achievements are only really successes if they benefit our community as a whole and vice versa. We believe that to adopt the UN global compact would be constitute acting in our best capacity as a global citizen. Thus, our management have begun the process of adopting the compact, this includes discussions into the integration and furtherance of the compact into our operations and practices. Future actions and decisions will be made available on our website as soon as possible.

Anchor Management Ltd. prioritizes sustainable fishing practices through various methods. We ensure that all the independent contractors we work with follow the same sustainable practices that we have in place and that all their fishing vessels are registered and have the appropriate licenses.

We acknowledge the concern for fishing in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. These practices include weighing each catch of anchovies to ensure we do not over-fish and to not fish in the same areas within a certain period of time.

Covid-19 effects on job security raised by Employees

The global covid-19 pandemic has had and will continue to have far reaching impacts on the global economy and community. We recognize the significant impact this will have on all our stakeholders but wish to specifically address the concerns of our employees. Management is putting extreme emphasis on investigating and developing ways to mitigate and prevent loss of income, a corporate disaster management expert has been recruited along with all major trade unions to participate in discussions regarding how Anchor Management Ltd. will go about dealing with the effects of the pandemic, such as review of sick and other leave structures, government aid, job and operational restructuring. We wish to emphasis that retrenchment is a last resort and reassure our employees that regular meetings will be held as well as letters sent out to communicate any updates as soon as they become available. Employees can contact their trade union representatives as well as the company website for further enquiries or suggestions. As an added measure, all employees will attend a mandatory information session, in which health and safety professionals will inform them on the disease as well as preventative measures for work and home.

Complaints regarding Truck Drivers raised by the General public

We have multiple measures in place to ensure that we have qualified drivers who drive responsibly. These measures include ensuring the accountability of drivers by only employing drivers with a minimum of two years of driving experience. All the trucks have GPS tracking devices installed and the tracking data is reviewed monthly. All the trucks have notices on the back with a telephone number to report poor driving. If any complaints are received, they are promptly followed up on by comparing tracking data and so forth. If a driver is found to be guilty of irresponsible driving a disciplinary hearing is held where the evidence is reviewed and steps are taken to reprimand the driver, ranging from official warnings to dismissal if deemed necessary. The company have these drastic measures in place not only to avoid lawsuits, but to ensure the safety of everyone. With regards to the specific claims made against the driver of Anchor Management Ltd., we have reviewed the tracking data of all the trucks travelling at the time which the skateboarder was allegedly injured. We found that none of our trucks were in the vicinity of this incident. We are concerned with the welfare of the skateboarder and hope that you can find the real culprit.
